With 2020 turned on its head, fundraiser cancelled and schools closed, the Foundation was unable to help as many children in school as they would have liked. However, we still looked to helping Arizona Children in our community through other means.
According to the Arizona Helping Hands website, between July 1, 2019 and June 30, 2020 9,566 children entered the foster care system. There are currently 14,000+ children in Foster Care, with those numbers the AFCCA Foundation for Children board truly felt helping children in Foster Care during the holidays was important.
The board approved a $2500 donation to Arizona Helping Hands, split between their holiday donation drive and their basic needs donation drive.
“The holiday season evokes so many feelings of doubt, insecurity and uncertainty. The average number of placements a child in foster care in Arizona will experience is 1.4, with some children being moved more than a dozen times. It’s no wonder that some of these boys and girls wonder if Santa even knows how to find them!” AZ Helping Hands Blog
Our donation of $1,250 helped purchase two toys and a new book for roughly 20 children in foster care, bringing a little happiness to them during the holiday season.
Our additional donation of $1,250 helped purchase five bed packages that includes a bed frame, mattress, pillow, sheets and blanket. Every child deserves their own, safe place to sleep.
We are so appreciative of our donors and volunteers that make gifts like this possible, we couldn’t do it without you.
We look forward to helping even more children in 2021. If you would like to make a donation to help children next year, please visit our Donate Page.
